From Indiana to Mecca: Indiana Traditionalists Fine Home in New OrleansThis little piece appeared in Midwest Jazz (no longer with us), fall 1994, pp. 21-22. It's ironic that David Boeddinghaus and Tom Fischer were students at Indiana University when I was on the faculty there, but we never actually met. I do remember a dixie combo playing at an off-campus pizza joint called, if memory serves correctly, Rapp's Pizza Train. Would we have ever guessed that the three of us would end up in New Orleans two decades or more later? |
